Research Fellow (Postdoc) Opening in National University of Singapore (NUS) for "FAST INSTALLATION CONNECTION DESIGN FOR STEEL AND COMPOSITE STRUCTURES" [Deadline for application: 12 Feb 2020]

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the National University of Singapore invites applications for Research Fellow (RF) position in Civil Engineering.

The National University of Singapore (NUS) is a leading global university; ranked 1st in Asia and 11th globally in the 2019 Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings. According to the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2019, the NUS Civil & Structural Engineering discipline has been placed 2nd in the world and 1st in Asia.

The successful candidate will be part of a research team that proposes, fabricates and tests innovative connection designs for composite structures that facilitate fast construction. Based on the experimental and numerical studies, the research team will produce a design guidebook for the proposed connections that conforms to Eurocode.

The successful candidate shall be working closely with A/Professor Pang Sze Dai and Prof Richard Liew Jat Yuen http://www.eng.nus.edu.sg/cee/people/ceepsd/

The initial term of appointment shall be for 12 months, with the possibility of extension subject to satisfactory performance. The remuneration and benefits are internationally competitive, and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

  Qualifications

Applicants for Research Fellow (RF) position should have a doctorate degree in Civil/Structural Engineering with good grades.

Additionally, the applicant should have:

  • Good communication skills in English, both oral and in writing
  • Proficiency in use of Eurocodes
  • Familiarity in computer-aided design (CAD) to create drawings of connections
  • Expertise in experimental work (instrumentation, physical testing, data acquisition)
  • Expertise in the use of ABAQUS to model steel-concrete composite action

The candidate will be carrying out experimental testing and numerical modelling of fabricated prototype connection specimens. Hence the candidate’s experience in instrumentation and testing of specimen, and/or finite element modelling of steel-concrete connection will be key considerations.
