3 Ph.D. Positions in Multiscale Mechanics and Materials

Kmomeni's picture

Three fully supported Ph.D. positions are open immediately in Advanced Hierarchical Materials by Design Labat the University of Alabama on multiscale modeling of materials and processes. The research directions are in the following fields:

1.     Additive Manufacturing (1 position): The goal of this project is to model the additive manufacturing process and to develop new alloys for additive manufacturing.

2.     2D Materials (1 position): The objective of this project is to model the synthesis of 2D materials to design new processes to improve synthesis efficiency, as well as synthesis by the design of these materials.

3.     Materials Genome (1 position): The goal of this project is to use machine learning algorithms to design materials and their synthesis process.

During these projects, the candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with NASA research centers, national labs, and different universities across the nation such as MIT and LSU.

The candidates must have earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering or related fields (applicants with an MSc will be given priority), and have a solid background in theoretical and computational mechanics. Knowing continuum mechanics, finite element modeling, molecular dynamics simulations, and a programming language is a plus.

The applicants should send the following materials to kmomeni@ua.edu and put Ph.D. Applicant in the subject of the email

  • Cover letter (summarizing their background, achievements, and motivations)
  • CV (including list related courses, publications, presentations, projects, and GRE/TOEFL scores)
  • Transcripts
  • One representative publication (if applicable)
