Funded PhD position available at Penn State

Interested students can apply here . A multi-year fully funded PhD research assistantship in the Department of Engineering Science and Mechanics is available. The project focuses on in situ monitoring of microstructure variation and residual stress during the powder bed fusion additive manufacturing process. Highly qualified candidates will have a strong background in one or more of the following areas: micromechanics, thermodynamics of metals (steels), welding, materials characterization (metals), acoustics/ultrasonics, data acquisition/signal processing, and additive manufacturing. Successful candidates will directly work with a state-of-the-art powder bed fusion printer at a world-renowned center for additive manufacturing. US citizenship is required. However, related opportunities exist for highly qualified international candidates.
