Postdoc position: Impact response of battery structure and system (Johns Hopkins Univ)

The postdoc fellow will work with Associate Research Professor Feng Zhu (https://fzhu.wse.jhu.edu/) in Hopkins Extreme Materials Institute (HEMI), a division of Johns Hopkins University.

Duties

·         Conduct drop tower and ballistic impact tests on lithium-ion battery cells and system

·         Develop numerical models to simulate the battery tests and analyze the failure responses

·         Write technical papers and research proposals

·         Guide graduate students in the group

 

Requirements

·         PhD in Mechanical/Civil/Aerospace/Materials Engineering

·         Fluency in LS-DYNA and Hypermesh (This is an essential requirement.)

·         Knowledge of vehicle crashworthiness analysis and injury biomechanics is a plus

·         Considerable physical strength (to move/lift/handle the 10-kg battery modules and use driller/saw to dissemble steel parts)

·         Current appointment is 1 year; Renewable based on funding and performance etc

·         The successful candidate will have chance to work with our industrial partner and faculties of the newly launched Ralph S. O’Connor Sustainable Energy Institute in Johns Hopkins University
