Research Associate position for experimental-numerical analysis of fatigue crack growth in residual stress modified additive manufactured samples; Lüneburg

Research Associate (m/f/d) (salary group EG 13 TV-L)

for a fixed term for three years. The opportunity for further scientific qualification (i.e. PhD) is given and an active shaping of the research project is desired.

Your tasks:

  • Responsible working in the DFG-funded research project "Experimental and numerical investigation of the fatigue crack growth behaviour of residual stress-modified additive manufactured aluminium samples".
  • Conducting research and preparing publications of high quality publications
  • Conducting experiments on wire-based laser metal deposition, laser shock peening, and fatigue crack growth (at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon)
  • Determination of mechanical and microstructural properties
  • Conducting process simulations for laser metal deposition and laser shock peening
  • Experimental analysis and simulation of fatigue crack propagation

Your profile:

  • Completed academic university degree in the field of mechanical engineering, materials science or comparable (Master's degree or equivalent)
  • Ability to work scientifically
  • Experience in the use of simulation tools and programming languages, especially the finite element method and Python
  • Experience in additive manufacturing is advantageous
  • Very good oral and written communication skills in English, additional knowledge in German is advantageous
  • Team player, motivation and engagement
  • Willingness to cooperate with non-university research institutions
