Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is seeking PhD student internship applicants for DEM particle mechanics simulations for engineering-type applications & research.
Work Location:
- Option 1 (on-site): Idaho Falls, Idaho, United States. Weekly stipend of temporary living is provided. Expense for travel to Idaho Falls and back to campus is covered.
- Option 2 (remote): must be in the U.S.
Duration:
- Option 1: Summer (about 14 weeks).
- Option 2: Spring semester (dependent on student's university calendar) + Summer (about 14 weeks)
Qualifications:
- Research experience with the discrete element method (DEM) is preferred.
- Proficiency with LAMMPS or LIGGGHTS DEM simulation package is a significant plus.
- Computer programming: C/C++, familiarity of Linux/UNIX environment, and basic user experience of HPC.
- 3D geometry creation with SolidWorks or AutoCAD.
- Ability to work and communicate (in-person and/or via virtual platform) effectively with in a group of modeling and experimental scientists is preferred.
- Technical writing in LaTeX is preferred but not required.
