Postdoc Opening in Architectured materials / Granular mechanics

Submitted by Francois Barthelat on

We have a new opening for a Post-Doctoral Researcher starting immediately in the Laboratory for Advanced Materials and Bioinspiration at the University of Colorado Boulder.

Our research group explores new material architectures that expand the properties and functionalities of traditional engineering materials. We currently have research projects that explore the mechanics of assembly, deformation and failure of architectured materials based on solid building blocks and grains.

The successful applicant will carry out research in these areas using micromechanics, fracture mechanics, finite elements modeling, discrete element modeling, design optimization, 3D printing and mechanical testing. They will also mentor and supervise students at all levels, participate in teaching, and contribute to the preparation of competitive grant proposals.

Required background: Mechanics of materials, Experimental mechanics and/or Computational solid mechanics.

Preferred but not required: Background in materials science, fracture mechanics, composites materials, soil mechanics, granular physics.

For consideration send full CV and sample of two publications to francois.barthelat [at] colorado.edu (francois[dot]barthelat[at]colorado[dot]edu)
