Assistant Professor in Applied Mechanics, Cambridge

Applications are invited for a University Assistant Professorship in Applied Mechanics. Relevant research fields include, but are not limited to, dynamics and vibrations, impact mechanics, computational mechanics, "green machines", robotics and sustainability.

The role-holder will be expected to provide innovative teaching in mechanics, contributing to undergraduate courses, laboratory coursework, supervising undergraduate projects, examining and supervising of post-graduate students.

The post is linked with Churchill College, and the successful applicant will be expected to take up a Fellowship at Churchill College, making contributions to their college teaching.

In exceptional circumstances, it may be possible to offer a small supplement to the salary range stated for this role for a five-year period. Any such supplement would be awarded on the basis of a demonstrable history of exceptional achievement and is entirely at the discretion of the University.

The position is based in the Engineering Department in Central Cambridge.

The interviewing panel will meet soon after the closing date to produce a short-list; references may be solicited. Short-listed candidates will be invited to the Department to take part in informal meetings with staff, give a short seminar/lecture and attend a formal interview. This process is expected to take place in January or February 2023.
