PhD positions in computational mechanics and additive manufacturing

Two fully funded PhD positions are available in my group in the Mechanical Engineering department at University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). Successful applicants are expected to work on the development of innovative high performance computational methods for multi-scale modeling of additive manufacturing process and materials. Interested candidates that meet at least two of following requirements are encouraged to apply:

1. Bachelor's degree (or Master) in Mechanical engineering, Civil engineering, Materials science, or relevant fields.

2. Strong interests in numerical analysis, theoretical mechanics, or computational materials science.

3. Experience in programing (Python, Matlab, C/C++, Julia).

For application, please send your CV and official academic transcripts (in a combined PDF) to Dr. Lu at yelu@umbc.edu

Dr. Ye Lu is currently Assistant Professor in the Mechanical Engineering department at UMBC. He received his PhD in Mechanical engineering from INSA Lyon, France in 2017. Prior to joining UMBC, he worked as postdoc at Northwestern University from 2019-2022. He is the awardee of several First-Place awards for additive manufacturing modeling, including NIST AM bench 2022 and AFRL AM Modeling Challenge Series 2020.
