Researcher Positions at Microstructure Solid Mechanics Group, State Key Laboratory of Nonlinear Mechanics, Institute of Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences

I. Introduction to the Team

Institute of Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMCAS) is the first national institution for mechanics research in China. It is a comprehensive and multidisciplinary national mechanics research center organized on the conception of engineering science by Prof. Hsue-ShenTsien. Through the efforts of generations of scientists, the institute enjoys international prestige in the international mechanics community, and has made a great contribution to the economic and social development of China. The institute currently has 7 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and 2 state key laboratories. The primary research directions of IMCAS include micro-scale mechanics and trans-scale correlation, high-temperature gas dynamics and trans-atmosphere flight, microgravity science and its applications, key mechanical problems in oceanic engineering, environment, energy & transportation, mechanics in advanced manufacturing as well as biomechanics and bioengineering.

The predecessor of the National Key Laboratory of Nonlinear Mechanics (LNM) was the Open Laboratory of Nonlinear Continuum Mechanics, established in 1988 at the IMCAS. The first director was Prof. Che-Min Cheng, a recipient of China's highest science and technology award. LNM is committed to original innovations in fundamental theories of nonlinear mechanics, actively promoting academic exchanges and cooperation at home and abroad, and serving as an important base for basic research in mechanics. The laboratory has formed its research characteristics over the past 30 years: (1) focusing on original innovations in scientific research without blindly following international trends; (2) adhering to the principle that theories must be verified through experiments; (3) providing young scientists with room for development and fostering a relaxed and open discussion environment.

The Microstructure Solid Mechanics Group currently has 8 full-time researchers, several special research assistants (including postdocs), and a number of doctoral and master's students. The group's research focuses on the design of microstructures in solid materials and devices, the relationship between microstructure and macroscopic properties, damage fatigue fracture of metal materials and structures, device and equipment development based on mechanical structural design, and the application and industrialization of research results. The research methods include theoretical analysis, numerical calculation, experimental preparation, and testing. The application fields include medical devices, wearable devices, aerospace, nuclear industry, and more.

II. Talent Recruitment Requirements and Benefits

Applicants should possess a research background in mechanics, materials, machinery, chemistry, electronics, physics, or related fields, and demonstrate a strong passion for engaging in basic scientific research, significant engineering applications, or technology commercialization work. Candidates are expected to have research experience in top-tier laboratories or research institutions, as well as excellent English reading, writing, and communication skills. A strong teamwork spirit is also essential. Priority consideration will be given to applicants who have achieved notable accomplishments in basic research or major engineering application fields, published papers as the main author in leading international academic journals or obtained high-level research results (degree thesis abstract can be provided as evidence).

Based on the applicant's specific situation, talent recruitment can be conducted through the following channels:

A. National Talent Program

Outstanding Youth Science Fund Project (overseas)

The applicants should not be over 40 years old, with at least 36 months of continuous overseas work experience. Excellent overseas PhD applicants may be considered with a flexible age limit.

Benefits: Negotiable on a case-by-case basis.

B. Chinese Academy of Sciences Talent Program

Academic/Technical Leaders/Senior Scientific Research Fellow

Applicants should not be over 40 years old. They should be able to conduct independent research in the natural sciences and engineering technology, and demonstrated their excellent innovation potential and strong teamwork abilities. Priority will be given to applicants who have already gained extensive academic influence in their field or possess key technologies. The Applicants should have at least 3 years of research experience (including 3 years) in a well-known research institution, university or the R&D department of large enterprises after obtaining a doctoral degree or have experience as an associate professor or equivalent. In the field of key core technologies, for those who have obtained a doctoral degree overseas and are exceptionally outstanding, the work experience requirement may be relaxed.

Benefits: Negotiable on a case-by-case basis.

C. Institute of Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences Talent Plan

IM Talents Program A

The applicants should not be over 55 years old and have a Ph.D. Degree. They should be full professors and have at least three years of research experience in an overseas world-class institution. They must have considerable research achievements, a strong international reputation in the corresponding field, and demonstrated outstanding abilities in management, coordination of teamwork and implementation of large-scale scientific projects.
