Dear iMechanicians:

Oxford University is seeking to appoint a Professor of Materials Engineering (Chair) in the department of Engineering Science.

This post is likely to be of interest to high profile, established researchers in the field of mechanics of materials. The successful candidate will be expected to embrace the opportunity to shape the direction of Materials Engineering at Oxford and to pursue a research programme at the forefront of the subject, providing research leadership to colleagues working in this field.

Applications are welcome from individuals with research interests in any relevant area of Materials Engineering and its crossovers with adjacent fields. Current strengths in our Solid Mechanics and Materials Engineering Group include fatigue and fracture, impact and shock, micromechanics and computational modelling, with relevance to a wide range of materials (metals, polymers, ceramics, composites and biomaterials) and applications (e.g. aerospace, energy, defence, healthcare). Developing interests include multiphysics and multidisciplinary aspects, bridging materials science, mathematics, medicine, physics, chemistry, and biology, with a focus on the mechanics of materials and emphasis on bespoke integration of experimentation and modelling. While applications in these areas are welcome, we are seeking the candidate best able to support and develop the group’s interests, widely interpreted.

The closing date for application is 12:00 UK time on Monday 18 September 2023.

Please see the attached flyer for further information, and feel free to circulate to interested parties.

Laurence
