PhD and Postdoc Positions at Harbin Institute of Technology, Shenzhen

The Mechanics of Functional Ceramics group (http://faculty.hitsz.edu.cn/yanzilin?lang=en) at HITsz, led by Dr. Zilin Yan, Associate Professor, is seeking highly motivated postdoctoral researchers and Ph.D. students for three directions.

 

Direction 1: This direction focuses on computational mechanics and materials science for energy devices, including solid oxide fuel cells, dielectric capacitors, and solid-state batteries. The postdoctoral candidate should possess proficiency in at least one of the following numerical techniques: DFT, MD, FEM, CFD, DEM, LBM, phase field method, or peridynamics.

 

Direction 2: This direction involves experimental research on the aforementioned energy devices. The candidate is required to engage in materials synthesis, ceramic processing, materials characterization, as well as measurements of electrochemical, dielectric, and mechanical properties.

 

Direction 3: This research direction explores data-driven and machine-learning approaches in computational mechanics and materials science.

 

Qualifications for Postdoctoral Researchers:

s   Ph.D. in Mechanics, Materials Science, Computational Science, or related disciplines. Candidates who will receive their Ph.D. within the next 6-12 months or who obtained their Ph.D. within the last 3 years (required by university policy) will be considered. Please be aware of that the applicant's age must be under 35 (required by university policy).

s   Expertise and strong publication record in the focus areas for the positions as evidenced by at least 3 peer-reviewed papers.

s   Excellent communication and writing abilities. The candidates are expected to lead their own independent research projects, mentor students, publish papers, and present at conferences.

s   Motivation, independence, and a strong work ethic. 

 

Benefits for the postdoc positions:

s   You will be appointed full-time for two years with opportunities for extension. The position is available immediately.

s   The annual salary will be in the range 260,000~320,000 RMB, including base pay, housing allowance, and a talent incentive from the Shenzhen government.

s   About 30% of postdocs at HITsz will be selected as outstanding postdocs and receive a one-time bonus of 150,000 RMB.

s   Competitive benefits will be offered. Additional benefits/allowances are available for full-time positions in Shenzhen after completing the postdoc.

 

Qualifications for Ph.D. Students:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanics, Materials Science, Computational Science, or related disciplines.

Strong mathematical, analytical, and computational skills. 

 

The Ph.D. program will start in September 2024 and lasts 4 years (for those with a Master's degree) or 5 years (for those with a Bachelor's degree).
