The establishment of the International Society of Materials Modeling (ISMM)
A MAJORE ANNOUNCEMENT!
I am thrilled to announce the establishment of the International Society of Materials Modeling (ISMM)! This initiative, rooted in discussions within the materials modeling community over the past decade, was officially approved by the Multiscale Materials Modeling (MMM) International Advisory Board (IAB) at the 10th International Conference on Multiscale Materials Modeling (MMM10). I had the honor of being part of the team tasked by the IAB to lead the efforts to officially establish this society in the USA (for tax exemption purposes), while maintaining its international scope to serve materials modelers worldwide.
The ISMM aims to advance the field of materials modeling by fostering research and innovation, promoting global collaboration, and supporting education and professional development. By organizing conferences, workshops, seminars, and summer schools, ISMM will disseminate the latest advancements and encourage the exchange of ideas among researchers and industry professionals. Additionally, ISMM will recognize outstanding contributions from members of our materials modeling community through various awards, advocating for the importance and impact of materials modeling in scientific and industrial applications.
The International Conference on Multiscale Materials Modeling (MMM) series will be the flagship conference organized by the society. However, ISMM aims to establish additional conference series focused on different aspects of materials modeling that interest the community. The society will kick off its activities at MMM11 in Prague this Fall. For now, the ISMM has the following announcements:
1) Call for Nominations to the ISMM Board of Directors (Deadline Sept. 1st 2024).
2) Nominate a colleague for an ISMM award (Deadline Aug. 15th 2024)
- Distinguished Career Achievement Award in Materials Modelling
- Early-Career Investigator Award in Materials Modelling
3) Call for proposals to organize MMM12 (Deadline Sept. 1st 2024).
For more information on these calls please visit our ISMM temporary page at: https://lnkd.in/erdE8KiD
Stay tuned for additional information on how to become a member of the ISMM and support its mission. For now please nominate yourself to be a member of the 1st elected board of directors and nominate a colleague for one of the two ISMM awards.
Finally, I have to thank the Johns Hopkins Whiting School of Engineering, the Johns Hopkins Department of Mechanical Engineering, and Hopkins Extreme Materials Institute at Johns Hopkins University for providing substantial support to help make ISMM a reality.
