Ph.D. Openings in Multiscale Mechanics and Materials

Kmomeni's picture

We are pleased to announce that three fully funded Ph.D. positions are available immediately in the Advanced Hierarchical Materials by Design Lab at the University of Alabama. Our lab focuses on multiscale modeling of materials and processes, and we are looking for motivated candidates to join our team in the following exciting research areas:

Research Areas

  • Additive Manufacturing (1 position):
    • Objective: Model the additive manufacturing process and develop new alloys for additive manufacturing.
  • 2D Materials (1 position):
    • Objective: Model the synthesis of 2D materials to design new processes to improve synthesis efficiency and create innovative material structures.
  • Materials Genome (1 position):
    • Objective: Utilize machine learning algorithms to design materials and optimize their synthesis processes.

Collaboration Opportunities

Candidates will have the opportunity to collaborate with prestigious institutions, including NASA research centers, national laboratories, and leading universities across the nation such as MIT and LSU.

Applicant Requirements

  • Educational Background: A degree in Mechanical Engineering or related fields (priority given to applicants with an MSc).
  • Skills: Strong foundation in theoretical and computational mechanics. Knowledge of continuum mechanics, finite element modeling, molecular dynamics simulations, and a programming language are advantageous.

Application Process

Interested candidates should submit the following application materials:

  • Cover Letter: Summarize your background, achievements, and motivations.
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV): Include related courses, publications, presentations, projects, and GRE/TOEFL scores.
  • Transcripts
  • Representative Publication (if applicable)

Please email your application materials to kmomeni@ua.edu with "Ph.D. Applicant" in the subject line.
