Associate Professor position in Solid Mechanics at the University of Oxford
The Department of Engineering Science at the University of Oxford intends to appoint an Associate Professor of Engineering Science (Solid Mechanics) with effect from 1 October 2025 (or as soon as possible thereafter). The successful candidate will work at the Department of Engineering Science (Central Oxford) and will be offered a Tutorial Fellowship at Pembroke College. The appointment will be initially for five years at which point, upon completion of a successful review, the post-holder will be eligible for reappointment to the retiring age.
This appointment will add further strength to the Department’s internationally renowned portfolio of research in Solid Mechanics Engineering. Applicants are particularly sought with demonstrated research expertise in Computational Mechanics and its applications. This might include, for example, constitutive model development, multi-scale and multi-physics approaches, AI, machine learning and data-centric approaches, or digital twins & surrogate models. The department has an interest in building further collaborations between Solid Mechanics and other areas of strength, such as Information Engineering and Machine Learning, and in growing links to applications in strategically important industrial sectors.
