CALL FOR PAPERS: Symposium on Material Response to Shock Loading at the 2009 Joint ASCE-ASME-SES conference in V-Tech
A Symposium for ASCE-ASME-SES-Conference, Material Response to Shock Loading (Computational and Experimental), http://www.cpe.vt.edu/mech09/index.html
The purpose of the symposium is to bring together researchers to discuss recent research advances and challenges in materials response to shock loading at different scales. The design of micro/macro structural systems and devices for survivability and multi functionality often involves emerging high-technology materials, such as nanocrystalline metals/alloys, nanocomposites, and nanoporous materials. In order to perform design analyses of these systems, a fundamental understanding and evaluation of mechanical properties and failure processes at high strain rates is essential. The understanding evolves with exploration of the effect of grain size, second phase precipitates, porosity, defects, crystalline structures, and several other parameters on micro/macro properties through various experimental and computational methods. The Symposium invites abstracts addressing various computational, experimental, and theoretical aspects of physics and mechanics of deformation and failure in metal and ceramic based materials during shock loading at lower scales.
