strain field measurement

HI,

i am looking into strain field measurement for coupon tension tests for
the purpose of correlation to fea results . a collegue told me that
there is an open source project

which calculates strain field from camera images. does anybody know something about it?

Cheers,

schuffe

Dear Schuffe,

I think your friend were talking about the work from some reaserchers from German:

http://www.imechanica.org/node/776

In this work they implemented the digital image correlation technique
in a Matlab code and it is very good. With this method they analyze
some images obtained during the tests and compare them with a reference
one, so that they are able to obtain displament information about some
points in the surface of the object. Through this displacement field,
they are able to obtain the strain field you wish. But, you need to pay
attention, that you need to have a speckle pattern in the surface being
analyzed to apply the technique and get the results (it can be done
using an ink spray, for example).

you can try the moiré technique, images are very  easyly to proces but you nead prepare in advance your specimenes test.

Hi,

MOIRE has many problems in its technique and main problem is that MOIRE does not share the source code of the technique which causes major problem in fixing the bug and making extensions of it.
