Suggestions required on research topic

I am planning to do PhD in modeling and simulation.  

I have Masters degree in Mechanical Engg. with more than 3 years experience in implementing finite element models for metal deformation processes and have exposure to various analysis softwares (ABAQUS and ANSYS) which included writing user routines. 

My primary intrest is in applying some of the advanced computational modeling techiques for solving some problem or enhancing simulation capabilities in certain areas. I am searching the potential topics in the areas of XFEM, Multiscale modeling, Multiphysics modeling etc. 

Currently my topic search is limited to review articles in the respective fields.  I request you all to suggest the suitable places to search for the recent trends, future research directions and emerging trends in the mentioned areas. 

It will be helpful to me if experts suggest specific problems being researched in this area which can be taken up as PhD topics.
