Postdoctoral Position in Computational Mechanics

The University of New Mexico, Department of Mathematics and Statistics, and/or the Department of Mechanical Engineering, is seeking candidates for a post-doctoral position to conduct research in the area of computational geomechanics for a project related to modeling the effect of rock joints on tunnel failure. A start date about June 1, 2010 is anticipated, subject to final budgetary approval. A Ph.D. in mathematics, mechanics or a related field is required.  Familiarity with one or more of the following areas is a plus: the material-point method, computational inelasticity, constitutive modeling, the mechanics of rock, or computational failure mechanics.

Successful candidates are expected to participate in multidisciplinary research activities, interact with students, and faculty, plan coordinate and conduct scientific research and perform various scholarly activities.

Interested applicants should send a CV with a cover letter, names of at least three references, and a summary of recent work to Professor Deborah Sulsky, Department of Mathematics and Statistics, University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, NM 87131.
