Early works on phonons dealt with low frequency and can be altered using different crystals. Now, Nanotech. creating materials with structures at high frequency and short wavelength phonon heat bath, where we can think of processes such as reversible supply of phonons to useful work etc..
My question is How we can handle high frequency phonons in order to think of such above mentioned application..

It depends on what do you mean "to control"?
An idea: photons can have very uncommon and specific behavior in photonic crystals. What about to use phoNonic crystals for phoNons?
