XFEM2011 ECCOMAS Thematic Conference on Partition of Unity Enrichment and Applications

Submitted by Stephane Bordas on

Dear colleagues,

Apologies for cross postings.

The second ECCOMAS Thematic Conference on the eXtended Finite Element

Method (XFEM) will take place in Cardiff (Cardiff University) in the

period 29 June - 1 July 2011. [see http://www.xfem2011.com for

details]

We would like to invite you and your students to submit original

research contributions in the area of partition of unity enrichment.

In particular, we welcome contributions to the following topics:

-         Mathematical foundations, a priori error estimates, modified

XFEMs, cut-off

-         Enforcement of constraints for enriched approximations, e.g.

boundary conditions on moving interfaces, hanging nodes, mixed

methods, coupling with moving meshes

-         Comparison with competing methods (meshless, discrete/lattice, damage)

-         Multiscale methods (e.g. coupling with molecular dynamics,

ab initio, etc.)

-         Preconditioners and iterative solvers, parallel and high

performance computing implementations in particular with domain

decomposition and model order reduction techniques

-         Coupled problems: fluid/fluid, fluid-structure, multi-field

-         (Goal oriented) error estimation and adaptivity

-         Space-time formulations

-         Generic implementation aspects

-         Applications of the method to structural

mechanics/materials/image based modeling, biomechanics, etc.

-         Industrial applications

Papers by PhD students will be considered separately within the Best

PhD Paper Competition. These will be judged based on the abstract as

well as the presentation provided on the day of the conference by the

Scientific Committee.

The deadline for early expression of interest is September 30th 2010.

Abstracts will be due on January 17, 2011.

IMPORTANT: The conference chairmen are interested in gauging the interest in a

two day pre-conference short course on the extended finite element

method and enriched meshfree methods for MSc and PhD students (to

continue the series of courses presented in

node/924

).

Please could you email stephane.bordas [at] alum.northwestern.edu (stephane.bordas @ alum.northwestern.edu) to

express interest before September 30th 2011.
