How to calculate a shockwave profile

Submitted by billowriver on

For a steady shock wave, since we know Rankine–Hugoniot relations, and Equation of state,

from downstream values, we can directly calculate upstream values, we know all the quantities, density, particle velocity, specific energy are functions of z (where z=x-ct), but, how to relate these quantities to z, and how to plot a S-Shape curve like density vs. z.
