Postdoctoral Fellowship at the CRANN Nanotechnology Institute, Dublin, Ireland
- Available immediately: A postdoctoral position in the area of nanoscale polymer mechanics for mechanical nanostructure forming and nanoimprint of soft condensed matter and glass forming systems.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing several projects in areas such as fundamental studiesof soft matter (polymer) deformation, mechanically directed self assembly, stress state influence on transport in planar devices, and investigations of surface force and pattern influence on the transport, orientation, and sorting of nanoscale objects. Laboratory work will include implementing nanoindenter actuation feedback and thermal instrumentation, and developing novel forming techniques with a unique three dimensional nanoindentation system.
The Cross group laboratory includes variable temperature nanoindentation and instrumented imprint, three nanoimprint platforms, atomic force microscopy, as well as full access to the CRANN Nanoscience Institute. This is a state-of-the-art facility located at the downtown Trinity College campus in Dublin. It includes an advanced microscopy facility (TEM, super SEM, He ion, electron beam lithography, 2 x dualbeam FIB) and extensive nanofabrication cleanrooms. Collaboration with other research groupswithin CRANN (www.crann.tcd.ie) is an essential part of this position.
Experience in nanomechanics techniques including nanoindentation will normally be required. Candidates should have a Ph. D. in condensed matter physics or related engineering field. Demonstrated research accomplishment in at least one of polymer physics, material mechanics, ortribology is required. Experience in nanolithgraphical processing including focused ion beam milling, electron beam lithographic processing and/or nanoimprint is highly desirable. The position has one year tenure with possibility for renewal.
Interested applicants should send a detailed CV with a list of publications to
