The candidate will be required to analyze and test engineering design concepts of electro and opto-mechanical products. He/she will be expected to build reliability into the designs by proposing improvements based on the analyses and test results.
The candidate should possess most (or all) of the following capabilities:
- Understand Physics-of-Failure concepts and be able to develop and implement accelerated tests to mitigate risks and qualify engineering designs during product development.
- Be familiar with using acceleration models for common failure modes in electronic products to estimate field failure rates.
- Capable of applying Design-of-Experiments concepts to develop robust evaluation plans.
- Able to use knowledge of product design and manufacturing to develop Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
- Knowledge of statistical techniques and models is required to analyze test data and estimate product life cycle performance.
- Understand Finite Element Analysis to evaluate product (mechanical and thermal) functional performance as well as address overstress and fatigue-related durability problems.
- Demonstrate a detailed understanding of the significance of time to market, risk mitigation, contingency plans and return on investment.
The candidate will be responsible to:
- Interface with manufacturing partners and component suppliers and develop a strategy for product qualification.
- Standardize methodologies and processes for increased effectiveness of qualifications.
- Monitor product performance in the field and will work closely with manufacturing partners and component vendors to drive the necessary failure analysis and drive corrective actions.
- Work with other functional disciplines to develop specifications for discrete components used in PCB assembly.
- Participate in component vendor selection activity and drive component qualification activity for components that are critical and strategic to Microsoft product requirements.
- Use knowledge of process capability for electronic component production as well as system-level performance requirements to establish Critical-to-Quality performance metrics.
This role will require the candidate to engage on multiple products and with multiple cross-functional teams. A strong skill-set covering analysis, problem solving, communication and vendor management is required.
Qualifications:
- Masters or Doctoral degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Materials Engineering, Physics, or related field.
