Postdoctoral position in micromechanics of composites at Risø National Laboratory, Technical University of Denmark

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a Postdoctoral position in the framework of a research project "High reliability of large wind turbines via computational micromechanics based enhancement of materials performances" at the Risoe DTU.

JOB DESCRIPTION: As a postdoc, you will carry out numerical micromechanical modelling of strength, damage and fatigue processes in fiber reinforced UD polymer composites, hybrid composites and nanocomposites. The theme of the project is the numerical analysis of the effect of microstructures of various groups of composites on their fatigue resistance and lifetime, and computational design of microstructures of new composite materials for wind energy applications.

QUALIFICATIONS: You are expected to have a PhD. degree in materials science, applied mechanics, mechanical engineering or related disciplines, and have an experience or good knowledge of mechanics of composite materials, damage mechanics, computational micromechanics, finite element simulations (preferably, ABAQUS and PATRAN) as well as programming in a higher-level language (C, Fortran, Python). Knowledge and experience in multiscale modelling and fatigue simulations will be advantageous.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: You will be employed in accordance with the terms valid for scientific staff at Risø DTU. The period of employment is 2 years, with the possibility of 1 year extension. The start of work is before October 1st, 2011 (earlier date is also possible).
