Two PhD positions with assistantship are available in computational materials science starting summer/fall 2011 in the Center for Advanced Vehicular Systems at Mississippi State University (http://www.cavs.msstate.edu/). This center works closely with the Mechanical Engineering Department at Mississippi State University (http://www.me.msstate.edu/people.htm).
1.    First project is about determining the growth stresses and phase transformations in oxidation process of a specific alloy using a Finite Element - Phase Field Model.2.    Second project is about developing a coupled phase-field crystal plasticity model for recrystallization.
Domestic or international students are welcome to apply.
Applicant must have his/her Master degree by the end of summer 2011 in mechanical or materials engineering or in applied mathematics with a strong background in computational materials science or computational solid mechanics and finite element method. Desired skills are: Familiarity with the phase field modeling and Experience using COMSOL and/or MATLAB.

Please send your letter of interest, CV, and sample publications to Dr. Zaeem (mohsen [at] cavs.msstate.edu (mohsen[at]cavs[dot]msstate[dot]edu))
