A funded PhD position is available in the George W. Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology for an interdisciplinary research project at the intersection of solid mechanics, AI, and sustainable manufacturing, with a start date in Spring 2027.
The research will combine experimental and computational mechanics with physics-guided machine learning to understand and predict the mechanical behavior of materials during manufacturing. This position is a good fit for students with a strong interest in mechanics and materials who want to integrate physical modeling with modern data-driven methods. Interested candidates should contact Dr. Shuman Xia at %20shuman.xia [at] me.gatech.edu (shuman[dot]xia[at]me[dot]gatech[dot]edu) with a CV and a brief note describing their background and research interests.
