XFEM and Cohesive Behavior combined in Abaqus

Submitted by vallejom@unm.edu on

Hello,

I would like to combine Extended Finite Element Method (XFEM) with cohesive behavior in Abaqus to model bulk damage as well as interlaminar damage in a material.

Section 10.6.1 of the Abaqus 6.9 Analysis Users Manual says that XFEM "can be simultaneously used with the surface-based cohesive behavior approach or the Virtual Crack Closure Technique, which are best suited for modeling interfacial delamination."

Does anyone know if XFEM can be combined with element-based cohesive behavior?

Thank you,

Meghan

Modeling sandwich composite in ANSYS

Hi, i need help modeling sandwich structure in ANSYS 12.1, i have found some materials online on how to do it? I have tried the basic steps. got some results, but now how do i validate that.   I have experimental data for three point bending. But i want to make sure that what i am doing in ANSYS APDL is darn right.

inputs are,

3 layers 45/0/45

thickness 0.1/0.365748/0.1   (inch)

material i am using right now are carbon fiber and foam DH100

properties of each layer have been assumed to be isotropic

Hello,

We would like to offer you step by step Video Tutorials of IOSO Optimization coupled with Concepts NREC and NUMECA software:

1) http://vimeo.com/16668245 by this we show how easily you can use direct integration capabilities between IOSO and Concepts NREC software to solve optimization tasks in turbomachinery

2) http://vimeo.com/16805244 here we consider IOSO – NUMECA coupled solution on the example of an optimization case study for turbomachinery

Help with Abaqus Scripting

Submitted by vveeram on

Hi,

I am new to abaqus scripting. I need some help with accessing the odb for history output.

I have a list of odbs and i need to take the displacement and contact stresses information at the end of the step.

The syntax i tried was

import odbAccess

fileName = 'static_open_c1.odb'

stepName = 'Load'

historyRegionName = 'Node HS-1.701'

historyOutputName = 'U2'

session.odbs[fileName].steps[stepName].historyRegions[historyRegionName]

ADINA SVEGM

I'm trying to investigate the effect of multiple support excitation (spatially varying ground motion) on seismic response of an arch dam using ADINA, so i need to apply different acceleration (and velocity and displacement) time histories on every node on structure-foundation interface.

I need help with MIMICS software please

Hi all,

 I need some help with MIMICS software please. I have a CT scan images for the whole body and i need to create 3D object for the shoulder model to each part Humerus and Scapula and then perform some measurments then Export it to ABAQUS. Does any one have any idea. Please help.

Forge2008 to Abaqus (.unv to .inp) subroutine Sigini

Submitted by snatsch on

Hello everyone,

I'm working on a linking project between two software: Forge2008 and Abaqus.My goal is to transfert output datas ( nodes,elements, stress tensor) from one software  as input datas for the next one.

In order to realise this task I have to understand the output format .unv of Forge 2008  (Universal I-deas format) and convert this file to .inp ( Abaqus)

And use the subroutine Sigini in Abaqus to put initial conditions.

So to sum up  do you have informations about .unv file (description of elements)
