The potential for Vanadium in molecular dynamic simulation

One of the most significant factors in molecular dynamic simulatin is to choose the proper potential. Recently, I did some searching jobs on Vanadium (V) potential and finally decided which potential I am going to use. Here is a simple summary:
A brief introduction of EAM, F-S and MEAM potentials for BCC transition metals

Structural thermal analysis in ANSYS

How can we perform first structural and then thermal analysis in ANSYS (version 12) ? All the examples show the sequence the other way. I can't go for Direct coupled method as the materials are elastic-plastic (plasticity is not supported by direct coupling elements).

How to use small cracks theory to solve fatigue problems???

I  really need help with it .Anyone can help me . Thanks a lot .

Multiscale simulation in particular quasi-continuum or bridging domain methods and fracture

We are interested in making contact with self-motivated candidates with significant experience in multiscale simulation, if possible with a Physics or Mathematics background for projects involving the simulation of multiscale fracture. Researchers with experience in ab initio models are particularly encouraged to make contact.

Please contact stephane dot bordas at gmail dot COM for more detail.

 Thank you

FEM simulation on damage of brittle materials with Abaqus on mesoscale

Hi, Smile

I'm a fresher in abaqus. Now I'm trying to simulate the damage of brittle kind of materials, like concrete with abaqus on mesoscale. But there are some problems now...

Some example videos of my new YouTube channel course "Mechanics of Materials" (italian)

Given the success of my facebook course Mechanics of Materials MMCM see here, we had so many videos and photos, that I suggested the students to create a Youtube channel.   Here it is, with many videos based on powerpoint presentations I had from my course, and that of collegues in Torino (Masssimo Rossetto), or some conferences presentations, which the students transformed into videos.  Thanks in particular to Mariella Greco, and Simone Legari.

Wanted: Fast FEA Solvers...

Summary:

I am thinking of informally conducting a specific case-study concerning the FEA solvers. The reference problem is a very simple but typical problem from stress analysis, leading of course to the linear systems: Ax = b and Ax = Lx.

I seek advice as to what software libraries currently available in the public domain would be best to use---the ones that would be fastest in terms of execution time for the reference problem.

I have a personal and longer-term research interest with certain issues related to the solvers technologies.

Some problems in the paper:" Haversian cortical bone model with many radial microcraks: An elastic analytic solution".

Dear all,

I have read the paper titled Haversian cortical bone model with many radial microcraks: An elastic analytic solution. My problems and the paper are attached.I hope you can see the problems and the corresponding paper. Thanks for your help.

Sincerely yours,

Xu Wang

Postdoctoral Position in Computational Mechanics

A postdoctoral fellowship is available in the Duke Computational Mechanics Laboratory, beginning in September of 2010 (with flexibility on timing).  Funding for the fellowship concerns research in the simulation of dynamic fracture of polycarbonate.  The ideal candidate will have experience in some combination of the following areas (in no particular order of importance):

Failure Theory Applications

A new section on applications has been added to the website on failure criteria.  Six examples of failure applications are given which span the range from very ductile to very brittle isotropic and homogeneous materials.  Summarizing two of the examples, first a very ductile polymer is examined wherein its tensile, compressive, and shear strengths are determined as influenced by a state of superimposed hydrostatic pressure. An interesting fallout from the example shows just how seriously in error the Mises criterion can be, even when applied to a ductile material.

WOM 2011 - 18th International Conference on Wear of Materials, Philadelphia, USA - Call for stand alone posters.

Submissions are now closed for oral presentations to WOM 2011, however, contributions are invited for stand-alone posters. WOM 2011 is to take place in Philadelphia, USA - April 3-7 next year.  It will focus on both the fundamental and applied aspects of wear and friction of materials at the macro-, micro- and nano-scale. Special emphasis will be placed on wear issues in harsh environments, energy conversion, and debris particle generation and its impact on the environment.

Pore fluid pressure

I am trying to model a simple 2-D consolidation test in Abaqus.  I am essentially applying a distributed line load across the top of a square soil mesh.  The excess pore pressures that are generated are plotting as negatives.  Is this the expected sign convention for a 2-phase soil/water mesh in compression?
