How to combine XFEM and UMAT in ABAQUS?
I have an idea: In abaqus, I want to simulate crack propagation by XFEM, and meanwhile I also want to define the stress update algorithm by writing a UMAT.
Anybody wants to share related experiences?

hi my friends,
i am using abaqus standard Mohr-Coloumb plasticity to model uniaxial compression test, so i have sample and (upper and lower platen) to represent the compression machine , i apply the load through the movement of the upper platen, the stress strain diagram of my material is strain softening.

I wrote these notes about 10 years ago to supplement a course of lectures at Ecole Polytechnique. There might be errors in the notes, but I hope they can help you learn this fascinating subject of lasting value.

A methodology is devised to utilize the statistical mechanical entropy of an isolated, constrained atomistic system to define the dissipative driving-force and energetic fields in continuum thermomechanics. A thermodynamic model of dislocation mechanics is discussed. One outcome is a definition for the mesoscale back-stress tensor and the symmetric, polar dislocation density-dependent, Cauchy stress tensor from atomistic ingredients.
