Composite Materials & Dynamics Laboratory (http://cmdl.missouri.edu/) at University of Missouri develops innovative solutions for Solid Mechanics and Structured Materials, in particular the new frontiers of structural dynamics, wave propagation, micromechanics, topological and quantum mechanics, smart materials and dynamical behaviours of multi-functional materials, both man-made and formed naturally, and understanding relationship between microstructures and material macroscopic properties.
Here are some definitions which I have in my mind about the hierarchy of field theories of any kind. Please read them and correct me if there is any misunderstanding. Then I shall raise two questions based on this model of thought about the Mindlin's strain gradient and Eringen's nonlocal linear elasticity theories.
Definition 1. Two field theories are the same if and only if the field equations of one can be obtained from the other.
We are soliciting applications from outstanding candidates for a postdoctoral research position in the Computational & Experimental Materials Engineering Laboratory, at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Johns Hopkins University starting immediately.
The position is available immediately and applications will be reviewed until position is filled. This will be a one year position renewable depending on performance.

A fully-funded PhD position is available in the Fluids, Particles and Interfaces Group led by Lorenzo Botto at Queen Mary University of London, in the area of fluid-structure interaction in 2D nanomaterials. The goal is to study with simulation and theory how flexible 2D nanoparticles suspended in sheared liquids deform, delaminate and break. Further details are given below.

The abstract submission to the bi-annual AIAA Integrated Computational Materials Engineering (ICME) Prize) has been extended to August 24. The best project will be selected and honored at 2020 SciTech conference along with $1500 cash award. To participate, you need to submit a description of your project which will be reviewed by the ICME prize committee.
