ABSTRACT

Localization of damage

Submitted by SDutta on

Hi,

Is it possible to use micromechanical homogenization to simulate damage localization? The analytical procedures that I have come across, mostly gives a homogenized behavior of the composite and is suitable as long as the damage is diffused. Is there a way to obtain the behavior when the defects (for example microcracks) localize into a damage zone? Some lead or suggestions of reference materials would be of great help.

Thanks.

One postdoc position at Singapore University of Technology and Design

Our group has one postdoctoral position opening supported by Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD)-Digital Manufacturing and Design (DManD) Centre for the projects of design and fabrication of fiber reinforced composites, and nano/micro fabrication.
We are seeking self-motivated postdoctoral researchers with a strong background on solid mechanics and FEA simulation, and experience in composite fabrication, material preparation and characterization.

Underwater Soil Mechanics Problem

Submitted by dphull on

I am an undergraduate student conducting a research project involving the design of a tool to aid astronauts to perform experiments on lunar surfaces and would like to request some direction about which analytical tools would be best suited for this application (i.e. FEA or DEM software/techniques). The specific scenario of interest is to design a tool that can act as an anchor in a sand-like medium (regolith) on the surface of the moon.

which kind of homogenization can we use?

Submitted by sedigheh on

hello every one.

If we consider dislocation effect( GNDs) that they have proportional relation with strain gradient, does it effect on way of homogenization or not? i mean at this situation can we use any methods of homogenization ? I'm looking into size effects at micro scale on macroscopic properties.i want to be sure if self consistent method is usable to as a method or not?
