Underwater Soil Mechanics Problem

I am an undergraduate student conducting a research project involving the design of a tool to aid astronauts to perform experiments on lunar surfaces and would like to request some direction about which analytical tools would be best suited for this application (i.e. FEA or DEM software/techniques). The specific scenario of interest is to design a tool that can act as an anchor in a sand-like medium (regolith) on the surface of the moon.

Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Pittsburgh

Applications are invited for a 2 year Postdoctoral Fellow in Dr. Andrew Bunger's group at the University of Pittsburgh Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. The group conducts research in geomechanics with an emphasis on mechanics of hydraulic fractures and poromechanics of rocks.

Postdoc position at Ecole Centrale de Nantes in France

A Postdoc position on “Risk-based Selection of Constitutive Models for Geotechnical Analysis” is open at Ecole Centrale de Nantes in France. Fore more details, see the attached pdf file.

Soil Structure Interaction

I am trying to model the soil churning action of a rotary tiller trough soil structure interaction. Based on some published articles, DEM and SPH approach both have been used to model the tool interaction with the soil. I am little confused in the selection of the appraoch. Can somebody throw some light on advantages and disadvantages of one approach over another and which approach should be chosen for more realistic results.

Does anybody have a simple example Program of bounding surface model, or electronic version of books reports..

Hi, everyone

I just start my research on bounding surface model for soil mechanics. Does someone have documents about programming of bounding surface model for stress-strain behaviour with a piece of program? Thanks a lot for your help.
