ASME IMECE 2012: Symposium on Quality and Reliability of Electronic/Photonic Packaging, MEMS, and NEMS

Submitted by Frank W. DelRio on

Dear Colleagues:

We are currently soliciting abstracts for the 2012 ASME IMECE conference on November 9-15, 2012 in Houston, TX.  The symposium is entitled Quality and Reliability of Electronic/Photonic Packaging, MEMS, and NEMS and is part of the Micro- and Nano- Systems Engineering and Packaging Track.

The call-for-papers for the symposium is as follows:

ABAQUS mass properties of a composite layup

Submitted by trkam on
Hi,

modeling a wind turbine blade (using shell elements) in ABAQUS/CAE 6.11-1, i encountered the following problem:

In order to match the structure of a real turbine blade, i created a composite layup consisting of several plies, whose thicknesses are not defined by a constant value but by discrete field distributions (Location: Elements, Type: Scalar). The discrete fields assign a thickness value to each Element ID.

dstl PhD studentship: Electropulsing and nanostructured steels

Imperial College London - Department of Materials

Duration of Studentship: 42 months

Applications are invited for a studentship in the field of electropulse-assistant nano-steel processing, leading to the award of a PhD degree. The post is to conduct research in the Department of Materials at Imperial College London and is supported by an initial bursary of £15,823 p.a. and the tuition fees are paid at the home rate only.

Stent/Artery contact Abaqus Explicit

Submitted by Slimjimmy on

Hi Everybody.

I'm modelling Nitinol stent crimp and expansion
into an idealised artery in Abaqus/Explicit. I am having numerous
problems with the ratio of kinetic energy to internal energy with the
analysis. I was hoping somebody may provide me with some insight on
this.

I am modelling the crimp stage using a C3D8 elements for
the stent and have defined a surface section for the crimper surface. I
am using kinetic contact and surface to node contact (surface to surface
