JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowships in Japan - 2 years - Deadline 10th August

Dear Friends,

I am looking for a postdoctoral candidate who wishes to apply for a JSPS (Japan Society for the Promotion of Science) fellowship.

This fellowship is a highly competitive scheme and includes a generous monthly salary (at the current exchange rate, around 3000 Euro or 3300 $) plus airfare (round-trip ticket to Japan).

I will support the application as a host and will help writing the proposal.
Applicants are allowed to suggest their own project, but preference will be given to candidates with experience and interest in two topics:

Extended deadline for abstract submission ESMC2015 "Micro and Nano Mechanics"

Fellow iMechanicians,

the deadline for submission for the next European Solid Mechanics Conference has been extended to the 30th November.

The conference will be the "place-to-be" next year in the Solid Mechanics community, with a truly outstanding line-up for the plenary lectures.

In particular, I am co-organizing with Nicola Pugno a mini-symposium on Micro and Nano Mechanics

Extremely Curved Cracks

The word "extreme" seems to be "trending" a lot these days, see the recent discussions on the new journal Extreme Mechanics Letters.

My collaborator Ruben Sevilla at Swansea and I were interested in very curved crack paths that develop in nature and have been replicated experimentally in thin films attached to elastic substrates.

The Future of Meshless Methods

I joined imechanica almost a year ago and I've been frequently following its interesting discussions, even the most animated ones. I think that a place like this is ideal to foster the exchange of ideas in the scientific community;

Moreover it is fantastic as a simple student like me can interact and easily ask questions to the most important researcher in the field of mechanics.
