Spectacular torsional-flexural autovibrations of a Volga bridge

Submitted by gregk on

The autovibrations of the bridge over Volga river in the city of Volgograd(Russia) were filmed (not by me) today on 05/21/2010. The amplitude reachedabout 1 m. The bridge opening was just six months ago...

Apparently, either the bridge frame drag was too high or torsional stiffness / damping too low.

Postdoctoral Position in Run-out Table Heat Transfer Studies at the University of British Columbia

Submitted by amirnobari on

The Centre for Metallurgical Process Engineering at the University of British Columbia (UBC) is recruiting qualified applicants for the position of Postdoctoral Fellow. This is a unique position in industrially oriented research on heat transfer studies during run-out table cooling of advanced high strength steels. In detail, the work will involve the development of a run-out table cooling model based on analyzing results obtained from heat transfer studies using the unique pilot scale run-out table located in the Advanced Materials and Process Engineering Laboratory (AMPEL) in UBC.

Hyperelastic+ Damage with UMAT - Abaqus/Standard

Submitted by Ahmetoglu on

 Hello,

 I have the following problem:

I want to implement a hyperelastic material model with a damage function (like the pseudo-elasticity of Ogden) by using a UMAT in Abaqus/Standard.

For this, in the first step I try to implement the damage of Ogden, which already exist in Abaqus/Standard.

But I don't know in which way I build the tangent stiffness matrix for this case (nonlinear and dependent of the history)

Do anywhere know a good literature in order to read and understand this issue?

Welding of aluminium alloy and steinless steel

Submitted by andrea on

Hi everybody,

I am wondering wheather is it possible to weld some kind of steinless steel alloy with an aluminium alloy?

Quite strange request, I know, but we're facing some problems with an aluminium shelter and it would be great to sobsitutute some grounding attachments with higher resistance material

 thanks

Andrea

In ABAQUS, how to set failure for the analysis of RC Slab

Submitted by elmi on

Iam modeling and analysing a simply supported RC Slab using ABAQUS 6.8.2 with static Riks Concrete Damaged Plasticity. My results show that the behaviour of the deformation seems to continue up to 1000mm. My query is that how to set ABAQUS so that the RC slab will fail in a realistic manner either in crushing (compression) or cracking (tensile failure) with reasonable maximum deflection value. Please let me know how to fix this problem. Thanks

How to mesh squre block with a spherical particle inside

Submitted by sidd04mech on

I have a squre block and inside it there is an sphere. I want to mesh the whole assembly. I can mesh the sphere but when i try to mesh the squre block with the spherical hole it cant mesh and says "it cant select the source and target face". I also tried to devide it into 8 parts. That helped me to mesh the sphere but i cant mesh the squre with spherical hole with that too. So please anyone can help me out.
