crack at boundary of 2 different materials

Submitted by manjusha2480 on

i am simulating a 2D crack. at the interface of 2 rectangles made of different materials. so i have 2 set of nodes at the interface, after simulating the crack do i need to merge the nodes upto the crack front ? for solving.

kcalc command in ansys is giving me much lower values of stress intensity factor. i am inputting  my pressure load 70 psi and am getting K vale 2603psi(inch)^0.5 which is not even reaching the thresshold value in the da/dn curve even for  the longest possible crack. so i feel my results are wrong.can anybody help me with this

X-FEM implementation in Abaqus

Submitted by Eugenio Giner on

Dear all,

Just in case it is of interest to some of you, we provide links to three postprints related to our Abaqus implementation of the X-FEM. The latest is an "article in press" in Eng Frac Mech where we explain the essentials of the implementation and provide a link to the source code for the Abaqus computation. Note that the implementation is limited to 2D and the pre-processing code needed for element subdivision is not provided.

Mapped Meshing

Hi all,

i am facing difficulty in mapped and sweep meshing. Can anybody guide me how to do sweep mesh or how to do mapped mesh??If anybody have any kind of good tutorial regarding mapped meshing, kindly send me at my email hijazi.19 [at] gmail.com

I will be highly obliged to you

What is the best software

Submitted by filipe_pedro on

I see that people talk a lot about ANSYS over here and that is the software that I use during my works at university. However, when I read some papers or attend some conferences I hear about other finite element programs such as ABACUS and NASTRAN. Besides that I've also seen other open-source codes such as SALOME, Code-Aster, etc...

What do you think is the best software to make finite element analisys, or if it's difficult to say wich one is best, what are the weak and strong points of each software?
