Announcing the Launch of the Eshelby-UH Mechanics Award for Young Faculty

Submitted by Pradeep Sharma on

It is my pleasure to announce the launch of the "Eshelby-UH Mechanics Award for Young Faculty". This award will be given annually to rapidly emerging junior faculty who exemplify the creative use and development of mechanics. The intent of the award is to promote the field of mechanics, especially among young researchers. While interdisciplinary work that bridges mechanics with physics, chemistry, biology and other disciplines is encouraged, the ideal awardee will demonstrate clear inspiration from mechanics in his/her research.

Inverse of the 4th rank tensor

Submitted by Mubeen on

Hi all,

I am looking for an algorithm to get the inverse of a 4th rank tensor (e.g. the compliance tensor S_(ijkl) from elastic stiffness tensor C_(ijkl)) S_(ijkl)=C_(ijkl)^(-1)

I am programming in FORTRAN, and for this purpose I wasn't able to find neither any algorithm nor any existing subroutine.

If anyone at this forum has any idea about this inversion, kindly guide me.

Best regards,

Mubeen.

Non zero initial accelerations in a dynamic computation on Abaqus

Submitted by mtannous on

I want to start a dynamic calculation in Abaqus in which, for every node, I specify the displacements, velocities and accelerations. I know that by the *IMPORT command, I can start a calculation with a deformed mesh, and that the velocities can be defined by in the *INITIAL CONDITIONS, but how to deal with non zero user defined accelerations? Have any body did that? Is it possible with a subroutine?

Thanks for any help

Viscoelastic material model in Abaqus

Submitted by Sajib Saha on

Hi,

I am trying to model asphalt concrete as viscoelastic mayterial in abaqus. As I have seen from past studies, people have used prony series parameters for time domain viscoelasticity and additionally also used elastic modulus from resilient modulus test data. As I already have dynamic modulus test data, I can calculate prony series parameter from it but the problem is with resilient modulus. Do I need to run resilient modulus test again to get the elastic parameter in abaqus or is there any other way to work with dynamic modulus test?
