Damage Tolerance Analysis of Repaired Composite Structures: Engineering Approach and Computational Implementation - 2012

Submitted by SIMULIA on

This study is focused on analysis of post-repair behavior of composite structures. The objectives are to a) develop efficient computational approach for repaired areas, capturing processes of both damage initiation and growth; and b) demonstrate it in Abaqus on representative examples of composite repair designs.

A Numerical Study of Abrasive Wear in Tillage Tools due to Soil-Tool Interaction - 2012

Submitted by SIMULIA on

In this paper, preliminary results from a numerical study undertaken to study abrasive wear of tillage tools by soil particles are presented. The wear process is modeled as a single sand particle scratching at a prescribed speed on the surface of a tillage tool.

Simulating Underbelly Blast Events using Abaqus/Explicit - CEL - 2012

Submitted by SIMULIA on

The study presented that simulations agree favorably with the test results and produce higher fidelity solutions than traditional analytical or empirical blast models. The work is shown that Abaqus/Explicit can be used to accurately predict the response of a structure subjected to a near-field blast event with specific application to underbelly blast events on vehicles.

Multiscale Approach to Damage Analysis of Laminated Composite Structures - 2012

Submitted by SIMULIA on

The presented work depicts results of a two-scale approach to the problem of damage and failure prediction on laminated composite structures. This work shows results of the application of the most commonly used micromechanical failure criteria applied for unidirectional composites.

Optimization and Flowchart Control in the Industry Process using Abaqus, CATIA, Moldflow with Isight Integration -2012

Submitted by SIMULIA on

This study will be shown how to perform this integration with Isight as a manager of several different solvers and how all work together. The key aspect of the optimization process is the ability to integrate different analysis models such as: injection, structural, thermal, modal and etc.

Plugin for Tunneling and Geotechnical Analysis in Abaqus - 2012

Submitted by SIMULIA on

This study shows a plug-in for Abaqus/CAE that helps the user to define a tunneling, excavation and temporary structures, with support facility and other geotechnical analysis. The paper explores the steps to define a geotechnical analysis and Abaqus/CAE capabilities. It also includes two examples of the plugin usage: a tunnel and a retaining wall.

Post doctoral position available--nanophotonics

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on

At the nanobiophysics laboratory we are looking for a post doc to participate on an experimental work regarding the tuning of fluorescence in nanoparticles under the effect of pressure. We believe that it is the strain rather the pressure that is causing the shift in the emission. We are also investigating this effect using numerical models. While we are looking for an experimentalist urgently we will be looking for a theoretician/numerical guy in a year. All welcome if you have the right attitude and motivation.

The Introduction of Shear Modification to Gurson Model

Submitted by Liang Xue on

I have been asked questions about how the shear modification was introduced to the Gurson model. I was also asked to compare my modification (see Xue L., Constitutive modeling of void shearing effect in ductile fracture of porous materials, Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 2008, 75(11):3343-3366) to John Hutchinson's modification (Nahshon, K., Hutchinson, J.W., Modification of the Gurson model for shear failure. European Journal of Mechanics A/Solids, 2008, 27:1-17).

Modelling large deformations

Submitted by deepakshyam on

Hi guys,

I am tring to model a thin strip of a material(E= 2*e6 MPA and poisson's ratio=0.5) into mobius strip. I should do this by applying Boundary conditions(rotation) or loads. When I tried this simulation, it kept getting aborted when I gave rotation(with respect to the axis parallel to the length) more than 3 radians. I tried refining the mesh but it di not help. Can any one suggest me how to go forward with this simulation or suggest me any other way of achieving this.

note: i used quad shell elements
