materials, …etc.)

Mass Participation factor

Submitted by prksh on

Dear all,

I am doing 3d modal analysis using Ansys. When I checked the "Effective Mass-EM" for rotational dof, it is very large compared with total mass of the model. can you share your ideas for this question.Run simulation upto 90% of EM in all dof or only in translation dof or only for 2 translation dof (any rule of thumb)?

 Thanks in advance.

XFEM and Cohesive Behavior combined in Abaqus

Submitted by vallejom@unm.edu on

Hello,

I would like to combine Extended Finite Element Method (XFEM) with cohesive behavior in Abaqus to model bulk damage as well as interlaminar damage in a material.

Section 10.6.1 of the Abaqus 6.9 Analysis Users Manual says that XFEM "can be simultaneously used with the surface-based cohesive behavior approach or the Virtual Crack Closure Technique, which are best suited for modeling interfacial delamination."

Does anyone know if XFEM can be combined with element-based cohesive behavior?

Thank you,

Meghan

ansys help

Submitted by rizuwana on

Hi!!!
I am doing the modal analysis of a tapered cantilever beam with an lumped mass at the free end
I meshed with beam 188 and difine the crossection as rectangular at the both ends by SECTYPE,SECDATA command.
But how to connect the mass element at the free end?
I hv also gone through the VM34 example given in ANSYS help.
Please suggest.

Number of elements in a vectorized subroutine into LS DYNA

Submitted by roms on

Dear all,

I'm writting an usermat into a vectorized subroutine in LS DYNA. The implementation is a non-local model based on an avarage of the strains.

For the implementation I need to know the strains for all the elements at each iteration to compute the non-local strains of all the elements.

Modeling sandwich composite in ANSYS

Submitted by jigaraero on

Hi, i need help modeling sandwich structure in ANSYS 12.1, i have found some materials online on how to do it? I have tried the basic steps. got some results, but now how do i validate that.   I have experimental data for three point bending. But i want to make sure that what i am doing in ANSYS APDL is darn right.

inputs are,

3 layers 45/0/45

thickness 0.1/0.365748/0.1   (inch)

material i am using right now are carbon fiber and foam DH100

properties of each layer have been assumed to be isotropic

Seeking a Postdoctoral position in mechanical and material engineering

Submitted by gayoub on

My name is Georges Ayoub; I am seekinging a postdoctoral research position in mechanical and material engineering. I defended my PHD at the beginning of this academic year (2010/2011) and the examining committee gave me the title of doctor in mechanical engineering with a very honourable mention and with the examining committee praise (they judged my work as an excellent one). I am very motivated to start a Postdoctoral position in January, in the USA.
