PhD position and postdoc positions at the University of Padova, Italy

In the framework of the ERC project FricLess, there are various openings at the University of Padova in Italy: one for a PhD student (three years) and three for postdoctoral researchers.

The project involes building a multiscale model for contact, friction, and solid lubrication.

We are seeking for candidates that have experience with numerical simulations of the type of molecular dynamics, dislocation dynamics, crystal plasticity, finite elements.

Dear Colleagues: the 56th Annual Technical Meeting of the Society of Engineering Science will be hosted by Washington University in St. Louis on October 13-15, 2019. As part of this meeting, we are organizing a Symposium (7.3) to address recent experimental, computational, theoretical and manufacturing advances in the research area of Mechanics and Physics of Soft Materials.

Discussion of fracture paper #23 - Paris' exponent m<2 and behaviour of short cracks

I came across a very interesting paper in Engineering Fracture Mechanics about a year ago. It gives some new results of stochastic aspects of fatigue. The paper is:

”On the distribution and scatter of fatigue lives obtained by integration of crack growth curves: Does initial crack size distribution matter?” by M. Ciavarella, A. Papangelo, Engineering Fracture Mechanics, Vol 191 (2018) pp. 111–124.

We employ theoretical and experimental tools to understand the relations between the micro-structure and the macroscopic response of soft materials. Materials of interest include electro-active polymers, 3D printed lattice structures, biopolymers, and gels.
