Help modeling a viscoelastic material in Abaqus

Submitted by Arnold Feng on

Hello,

I'm trying to model indentation of a viscoelastic material in Abaqus.

I have (1) stress-relaxation curves for the material and (2) force-displacement curves for the material from a real indentation experiment.

From this I can readily calculate the elastic modulus (infinite) and the elastic modulus (instantaneous) for the material.

I'd like to fit a Prony series based on this data that I can enter into Abaqus to model the material.

How would I go about fitting the Prony series from the force-displacement and stress-relaxation curves?

Thanks for your help!

Arnold,

Try checking out this paper and other papers referred to in this paper, you will just need to solve for the convolution integral if your material is strain and time separable.  For linear viscoelasticity, it is rather simple, for non-linear requires more 'sophisticated' methods...

I did fit a Prony series to data (using Abaqus) from dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) test of the material's specimen,

where I obtained storage&loss modulus data at different frequencies (i.e. frequency-dependent data).

I believed you can also get Prony series from the stress-relaxation data (i.e. time-dependent). I think the Abaqus Analysis User's Manual does provide detail explanation on how to do this.

Hi every one:

I want to know How can I  enter prony series for HDPE into Abaques;

Method of calculating of prony series and Experiments to do.

please send me a pdf if there is a long explanation
