i am a PG student .i have to model a concrete beam in ansys and run nonlinear analysis . which model is better smeared or discrete model.
i am using solid 65 for concrete and link 8 for steel my project mainly concerns on shear behaviour. i am not getting any crack pettern or my problem is not converging please help me ou. please send me if anybody have literatures related to that

Hello,
If I understand correctly, by smeared model you mean to use a phase field model/diffuse interface material model to simulate the fracture behaviour in your nonlinear analysis. If this is so, it depends as to what kind of loading you are using and what resources you have at your disposal. Using a phase field model for fracture simulation requires a rather fine mesh aroud the interface region or in your case the crack_tip region. If you can afford to compute this, then you should be able to get rather accurate results; But of course it also depends on many other things such as the parameters you use for your model.
