Rohan Abeyaratne will receive the 2010 Daniel C Drucker Medal

Submitted by Zhigang Suo on

Professor Rohan Abeyaratne, of Massachusetts Institute of Technology, is selected to receive the 2010 Daniel C. Drucker Medal.

I am writing on behalf of the Daniel C. Drucker Medal Committee: Zhigang Suo (Chair), Tayfun E. Tezduyar, Ares J. Rosakis, Kenneth M. Liechti, Lawrence A. Bergman, Daniel J. Inman, Krishnaswamy Ravi-Chandar, Thomas N. Farris, Wing Kam Liu, Mary C. Boyce, Thomas C.T. Ting, Albert Kobayyashi, Alan Needleman, Robert Taylor, Franck A. McClintock.

The Daniel C. Drucker medal was established in 1997 and is conferred in recognition of distinguished contributions to the field of applied mechanics and mechanical engineering through research, teaching and service to the community over a substantial period of time.

Instituted by the Applied Mechanics Division, the medal honors Dr. Daniel Drucker and commemorates his service to the profession.

The Medal, which includes a bronze medal, a certificate, and an honorarium of $1000, will be presented at the Applied Mechanics Banquet, tentatively scheduled on Tuesday, 16 November 2010, during the ASME International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition, to be held in Vancouver, Canada, 12-18 November 2010.

Professor Abeyaratne is selected to receive the 2010 Daniel C. Drucker Medal “for seminal work in developing the fundamental ideas of the continuum theory of phase transformations in solids.”

Heartiest congratulations to Professor Abeyaratne.
