The MIT Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering seeks to fill a Lecturer position in structural engineering with the opportunity to build strong ties with MIT Department of Architecture. Position is full-time for a three-year period starting September 1, 2012.

Responsibilities include teaching graduate level subject(s) in modern structural engineering and supervision of student projects and theses in the M.Eng. High Performance Structures Program http://cee.mit.edu/meng involving structural design and architecture. Projects involve teams of four to six students and are collaboratively taught, while theses are written and supervised individually.

Lecturers are expected to:

• Excel in classroom teaching

• Contribute to the existing courses and the development of new courses in the area of sustainable civil infrastructure

• Participate in advising students

The successful candidate should hold an advanced degree (preferably at the Ph.D. level), have experience working in practice (preferably a PE license), and have demonstrable skills in organizing and leading design projects. Candidates should be familiar with modern software tools for structural analysis and design.
