i need your help in working on modeling of my project in Abaqus.
im working on model of an Article.
the field of project is about underwater explosion.
This is the original article:
http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0167844209000731
first i have to design the model of the article in abaqus.
as you see in article the model is a submarine hull.
i decided to create 3 parts : 1. dome end Semi-spherical 2. Cylinder 3. Stiffeners
according to article hull is Shell and Stiffener is Solid.
now
i created the all parts. but i dont know how to define to Abaqus that
these parts should merge together and make the main parts ( merge
command is not my meaning !)
quickly my question is: HOW to truly Assemble these parts ?
so i wanna ask you please help and guide me in modeling of this hull,
whats the true and ideal procedure of creating and assembling this structure?
thanks alot

It depends on how you want
It depends on how you want the interfaces to work. If you create them as separate parts, then you must use an interaction to assemble them. One common way to do this is to use a *TIE on two adjacent surfaces. The only downside is that if the meshes don't match (and they don't have to) you will get some overstiffening in this region. If you want to avoid this, then you will want to model the entire thing in one part, so you can get a continuous mesh throughout.
Other options are fasteners (Connector elements), but only if you actually have fasteners in the thing you're trying to model.
Another option is to take the mesh into Hypermesh and merge nodes. This will have the downside of losing any associativity with your CAD data.
I hope that helps!
