Hello

try

User's Guide chapter 34.5.1 Prescribed assembly loads
CAE User's Guide 22. Bolt loads

and:

1) Bolt Studio Extension:
http://www.3ds.com/products-services/simulia/portfolio/abaqus/abaqus-po…
get
Auto-GM-BoltStudio-A-Suite-of-Extensions-to-Abaqus-CAE.pdf
from that link

That pdf is also available from
http://imechanica.org/files/gm-boltstudio-suite-extensions-abaqus-cae-s…
GM BoltStudio: A Suite of Extensions to Abaqus/CAE for Simulating Bolted Assemblies at General Motors
Cong Wang, Max Zhou, and Jon Dunn

2) There is also a special "Abaqus Extension for Threaded Connections" available for Abaqus.

3) A formerly availabe site from Simulia was http://simulia.custhelp.com. Regrettably, that site is down.
   One could find there:
Answer ID 4999 : Plug-in for defining bolts, nuts and washers and placing them into CAE
Send me a PM if you want it as a separate zip. I don't know if that plug-in works with 'modern' Abaqus releases or not.

4) "Creating a Bolt Preload in Abaqus/CAE" on
http://info.firehole.com/blog/bid/138311/Abaqus-Composite-Tutorial-Crea…
This link is down meanwhile. Send me a PM if you want it as a zip-file.
Also: movie available at www.youtube.com/watch?v=aoxWHFo6Ln8

5) http://www.simulia.com/download/scc-papers/Energy/boundary-condition-in…

6) Get the file
http://krabbenhoft.eu/media/26215/Pretension.pdf
It was made available to the public on LinkedIn, and described with: "In the effort of effectively gaining knowledge within the world of finite element modeling, Krabbenhøft has created a guide that shows, how to apply pretension on several bolts by using Python scripting, applied directly from within the CAE."

I never worked with any of that stuff.

Good luck

dear Frank

Thankyou for your reply. I am using student version of abaqus. and I am a learner. I want to do analysis on threaded hexagonal bolt and threaded hexagonal nut in preloading. I have observed various tutorial in ansys and found that you can model threads by sweeping the crossection of thread and giving pitch.i am trying this in abaqus  but i could not model it till now actually i am new to abaqus and ansys. i think it is possible to model thread in abaqus like ansys ..i 've been trying but culd not succeed.

thankyou

i found this comment , halo dear members can any one explain meaning of this

the trick to this is to make a 'negative' of your root profile and boolean cut it away from a cylinder.  The root spiral can be made using the twist

feature in the extrude dialog..
