A strong background in Continuum Mechanics and Mechanics of Materials is required.

A strong interest in C++ and Python programming for large-scale simulation is required, regardless of previous experience.

I guess that this would be associated with the ISN at MIT. For this reason, I guess that only the US citizens or green-card holders with security clearance would be eligible.

I also guess that this advertisement might be just a procedural formality. My guess here is that there could be some good people who had applied earlier for the tenure-track position in the same group, responding to this ad. here [^], and that while they weren't found suitable for a tenure track position as such, they might have been found suitable for a post-doc.

On both counts, I guess, the due-date wouldn't matter much. But, yes, it's always good to ask, and be sure, than just presume that guesswork would be true.
