Refer to Theory Manuals of any commercial FEM Software
Hi,
I reckon that you work in a consultancy environment. The best is to solver simple mechanics problems such as truss structures, spring networks on hand (or use MathCAD). I used to refer to commercial software THEORY Manuals (ANSYS, NASTRAN and ABAQUS are good) and apply my foundation.
When comes to FEM the principals of solving the equations are similar. The basic thing to know is the ELEMENT formulation and its DOF (also order and plane stress/strain).

Vijay
