ABAQUS: I can't find the ErrElemMissingSection as defined in the error message of the aborted job.

Hi Guys,

I am facing the following error in the execution of a job in ABAQUS:

'Error in job ModalTest_2: 27 elements have missing property definitions. The elements have been identified in element set ErrElemMissingSection.

Error in job ModalTest_2: SECTION DEFINITIONS ARE MISSING OR INCORRECT FOR THE ELEMENTS INDICATED ABOVE. FURTHER PROCESSING OF THE INPUT FILE IS NOT POSSIBLE UNTIL THIS INPUT ERROR IS FIXED.'

Now, I understand that only 27 elements are having the error and therefore I want to find and rectify them. I have searched previous threads, and everyone states to check the 'ErrElemMissingSection' in the visualisaton section/element sets. But my visualisation module/element sets has no sets present at all after the job is automatically aborted. Could anyone please advise me as to what can I do to find those unassigned 27 elements?

Thanks.

Unfortunately, when Abaqus aborts it has a nasty habit not always writing the error set to the ODB. Try looking in the property module and turning the coloration to "Property". Things that don't have a property will be translucent.

Another thing to check is for other errors in the dat file. You might find that all of the elements do have sections applied, but there is an error in a section or material card so it's dropping that definition.

Hey Marcus,

The 'property module' coloration method did the job. I have a swept part and I wasn't able to notice a very thin side that had its section unassigned. Thanks a lot for the help!

Cheers.
